Gave Unity a spin, and I am impressed by the interface. It is a lot more intuitive (for me) than I expected. Yes, the designers have taken a lot of Mac-like ideas and implemented it into the interface, but they have their own spin as well. This is no revolution in interface designs, but it certainly has a lot of potential as a polished desktop.

What really annoys me, however, is that you have to hover the mouse all the way to the left edge to make the dock appear. This is not very smooth and could be confusing, I imagine, for new Ubuntu users.

Verdict: Because it is in BETA, Unity has some bugs that must be squashed before Natty is to be released on the 26th (?).

Would I switch to Ubuntu from my minimal, customized Arch? Err, not quite. But I concede that Unity has a lot of potential.

Well good news! [link] - there will be two options to choose :
- ‘Show launcher with mouse on left of screen’ – This is the new default. When needing to access the launcher a user can now just move their mouse to the left of the screen to trigger the reveal.
- ‘Show launcher with mouse in top left corner’ - this is the incumbent default and requires a user to prod the top left of their screen with the mouse in order to revealed the launcher
I love Unity so far. Cheers.
